Our Impact

At Familiar Hearts Animal Society, every act of rescue creates a ripple, touching the life of an animal in need, supporting the humans who step forward to help, and strengthening the compassionate community around us. Our impact begins with the direct, hands-on rescue of homeless companion animals, offering them safety, veterinary and behavioral care, and the chance to find their way to loving forever homes. This work not only transforms animal lives but brings deep purpose and connection to the volunteers, fosters, and adopters who open their hearts to them.

These are the stories of our impact: rescue, community, education, and the many familiar hearts, human and animal, who make this work real.

Preventing Surrender, Preserving Love

Our commitment to keeping pets with their families is reflected in the strength of our Pet Pantry, which provides vital food and supplies to households facing temporary hardship.

The presentation is projected on a large screen behind them, which displays a logo and the event details. The is speaking into a microphone, and the man is standing beside her, holding a glass.

Educational Partnerships

Through our educational partnership with the Henry H. Houston School, we engaged young learners in understanding empathy, animal welfare, and the responsibilities of guardianship.

Community Events

Familiar Hearts also thrives beyond the walls of foster homes. In 2025, we stepped even further into the neighborhoods we serve by welcoming an Events Coordinator to the team. With nearly a dozen community events, from the Mt. Airy Village Fair to joyful Yappy Days, we nurtured spaces where people could meet adoptable animals, learn about responsible pet care, and feel part of a shared mission.
